Closure, Slope Stability and Remediation
Location: Carcross, Yukon Territory
QMLP was retained to remediate and close an abandoned former mine site near Carcross, Yukon Territory.
QMLP successfully completed the project on schedule, under budget while utilizing a work force comprised of approximately 40% from the local First Nations Band. The scope of work included the following:
- Deconstruction of two decaying wood retaining wall structures on a greater than 35% slope above a major transportation corridor;
- Deconstruction and sealing of former mine adits;
- Removal and stockpiling of 7000 tonnes of mine tailings from behind retaining walls;
- Deconstruction and removal of former mine buildings;
- Reconstruction and grading of slope to increase stability and drainage; and
- Removal of debris.
